Ruess Wins State Points Race Championship

Abby Ruess (Bianchi/Grand Performance) won the Women's State Points Race Championship on a rain-shortened evening last Thursday.  After multiple rain-delays, the women took to the rail for the start of the 30-lap event.  With sprints every 10 laps, each sprint would be crucial in setting the standard.  Ruess and Meg Browning (UMCT) traded wins in the first two sprints.  Browning edged Ruess in the first sprint, coming over the top at the finish line.  Ruess exacted her revenge with 10 to go, holding off a charging Browning.  With the score leveled, the final sprint would prove decisive.  Karin Friberg (UMCT) attacked with 3 to go, gaining a 200 meter advantage within 2 laps - putting Ruess and Browning's lead in jeopardy.

The two leaders attacked at the bell, preventing Friberg from gaining the lap and 20 points.  Despite Friberg taking the 5 first place points, Ruess gained 20 meters on Browning and held her off for the 2nd place points and the final victory.  It would prove to be the last race of the evening as rain moved in and washed out the remaining races on the schedule.

Muscle Milk Miss 'N Out Headlines Full Schedule

Thursday marks the finale of the Muscle Milk Miss 'N Out race series for the Category 3 men.  With current leader, Gabe Masiulis (Omnium) out for the season, Mark Leppke and Matt Allen (both Behind Bars/LGR) - just 2 points behind Masiulis - appear poised to take the championship. The Category 1/2 men will contest the All City King of the Sprint Keirin and both the Category 1/2/3 men and the Category 4/5 men will contest the state championship points race on a busy night in Blaine. Only three nights of racing remain in the 2012 Thursday Night Lights race season. Be sure to get your racing fix this week!
